Perched at 6,000 feet above the Teesta valley, the Temi tea estate is one of the world’s most remote — and its small harvest of orthodox tea, grown without chemicals, sells out months ahead.

The estate’s organic certification, the first for tea in the region, has made its second-flush leaves a collector’s item.

The plantation, owned by the state, employs 400 families — and its workers’ children now make up most of its management trainees.
