When the horn sounded at Kohima’s bus station, the region’s first all-women taxi cooperative was in business: twelve drivers, two shared cars, and a booking line that runs through a WhatsApp group.

The cooperative was born of a practical need — women passengers, especially after dark, wanted women drivers — and grew into an employment bridge for drivers who found private firms unwelcoming.

There are forty names on the waiting list.
