The Tipra Motha, born of a cultural revival movement among Tripura’s indigenous communities, has in a decade become the state’s most consequential political force after the two national parties.

Its demands — greater autonomy for indigenous areas, constitutional recognition of indigenous identity — have forced every rival to respond.

The party’s rise is also a generational story: its leadership is young, digital-native, and fluent in both Kokborok and English.
