Mizoram’s road to Chittagong: the port dreams of a landlocked state

From Aizawl, Chittagong port is 72 kilometres away as the river flows. Getting there — through two checkpoints and a treaty — has been the state’s oldest commercial dream.

Discussions on a transit corridor have resumed, and Mizoram’s business houses are planning warehouses and cold chains on the assumption it will happen.

The state’s economists are careful: ‘A corridor is a promise. The trade is the proof.’
